Château de Ternay

The owner was so kind and understanding when we needed to change our plans, and he made us a delicious breakfast. We loved staying at the Château de Ternay. The castle has a beautiful, authentic historical feel, with tasteful modern touches, especially the very comfortable bathroom. Such a peaceful, special place, with plenty of charm and hospitality. Highly recommended if you’re looking for history and a warm welcome.

The room was lovely and clean, with a nice view of the old tree. Loic also shares plenty of the castle’s history on a short tour during your stay. The shared areas feel quite rustic, though, and could be cleaner.

The grounds are impressive, and exploring the caves and being greeted by the dogs were highlights for us. We only stayed one night while passing through, and wished we’d booked a whole weekend. The hosts were joyful and gracious, and breakfast was lovely. Merci beaucoup pour tout.

Our family’s three days at Chateau de Ternay ended up being our favorite stop on a two-week tour of France. The large rooms were beautifully decorated, with stunning views, and we thought the price was a bargain. The property was beautiful and peaceful, with woodland paths for a leisurely walk. We loved being joined by the owners’ sweet dog. We also had a personal tour of the chateau, and it was especially interesting when our guide could point to a portrait and say, “this is a portrait of my great-great grandmother”! We arrived quite late after a long drive from Paris, but they welcomed us warmly and kindly accommodated us. Breakfast the next morning was a wonderful traditional French spread: pastries, baguettes with a variety of jellies, yogurt options, juice, tea, and coffee. We got useful tips on things to do nearby, along with maps and reading material. There was no television or internet in our room, though these were available in the main sitting room. That didn’t bother us. We came to France to explore, see history, and spend time in the countryside. I’m writing because I’ve seen several low-star reviews that didn’t seem accurate. I can’t recommend this place highly enough.
