The peaceful grounds make it easy to head out for a gentle walk or a tougher hike, and there’s a chapel on site too. For downtime, there’s a pool with good loungers, a comfortable terrace, a games area and bar set a little apart from the main house, plus a pool and billiards room inside. There’s a lot to enjoy here for a very reasonable price. We’ve stayed with Marieke and Sander at Abbaye du Palais many times, and their welcome is always warm, with their lovely daughters joining in. They’re happy to help with anything. We especially like the evenings when things are quiet enough for the family to sit and have dinner with us. Sander cooks beautifully, with one daughter helping in the kitchen while another helps Marieke host and serve wine that goes perfectly with the meal. The rooms are spacious and tastefully furnished with period pieces, and the bathrooms have freestanding baths and walk-in showers. You can stay in the main house, in an outbuilding with self-catering options, or in one of three very cute, well-equipped gypsy caravans. We can’t recommend the place highly enough and expect we’ll be back again.

I feel lucky to have met this lovely family. The owners put so much care into looking after their guests, and this is probably one of the best places of its kind. I can’t imagine finding anything better. I’d recommend it to anyone hoping to celebrate a special occasion somewhere truly wonderful. Hope I can visit again soon 🙂🙏❤️

We came here for a wedding and loved the rooms, food, facilities and general feel of the place. The family running it were incredibly friendly and thoughtful, and helped us think through and organize parts of the wedding. The location is wonderful too. I also worked remotely here for a day, and the Wi-Fi was fast and reliable. Definitely worth a visit if you get the chance!

There was so much to do on site, especially for kids, which I hadn’t expected. Our cottage was clean, comfortable, just the right size and well equipped, and the dinner at the table d'hotes was exceptionally good. It’s a beautiful, relaxing place for a holiday in the heart of France. We spent the last few days of our trip elsewhere in France, but kept thinking about Abbaye du Palais. We miss it and hope to come back.

We only stopped overnight on the way home, and wished we could stay longer. The medieval setting had a great atmosphere, the food felt like fine dining, and everything was comfortable, especially the roll-top cast iron bath. Nothing was too much trouble. A great experience.
