Hôtel Première Classe Thionville

We’ve stayed overnight here twice this year. The night receptionist, Dorothe, was super friendly, and the morning staff were lovely too. Breakfast is a small buffet with enough choice, though not a huge variety. Our room was clean and faced the back, so there was no highway noise. The garage parking is free. The wifi didn’t work.

The garage under the hotel was handy, and parking there was free. Our room was clean and quiet, even though the hotel is next to the highway. It didn’t face the highway, so I can’t say whether those rooms are noisy. For the price, it was perfectly adequate: just a bed and bathroom, both fine. No frills, but that’s what you’re paying for.

For the price, the room is decent and seemed clean, but it smelled bad, possibly of cigarettes. There was mold in the shower. The reception staff were a mixed bag: some were friendly, while others told me “I don’t care” when I asked for help, or counted Pepsi in the fridge instead of serving the queue. The windows were the strangest part. None of the rooms has a handle, so you can’t open or close one without calling reception; about an hour later, a security guard comes to do it. They say it’s for safety, to stop people falling or jumping out, but I don’t see how that makes sense if the guard can open it for you. The seals might as well not be there, since highway traffic is very loud and the room stays about as warm or cold as outside, like the window is open.

We didn’t try breakfast, and the wifi was very unreliable. Still, it’s a decent stop for the price and the parking garage is spacious. It was surprisingly quiet despite being beside the highway. The beds were okay, but the pillows were awful, so I’m glad we brought our own. The bathroom and shower are small and have some mold. Fine for a one-night stop, but I wouldn’t stay longer.
