Hôtel Club MMV Les Brévières

I’ve never written a review before, but our stay here was appalling. On the second night, money was stolen from my room by cleaners. The food was stone cold and basically vegetarian, and the hotel itself was freezing. Then, while I was showering, the whole shower came off the wall and hit me on the back of the head. I missed a full day of skiing. They say they’ll reimburse me only if I go to a doctor, even though I’m from England. The crockery was dirty, and there was a light in the room with no casing around it, which seems like a real risk if you have kids. The manager was completely rude. I’ve been skiing 15 times and never had an experience this bad. I don’t understand the four-star rating. Please don’t waste your money here. Pay a little extra for a better hotel. This place felt more like a hostel.

The rooms are fine, if nothing special, and the location is really convenient, very close to the slopes. But Carlo’s pizza alone is enough to make the place worth staying at.

We really enjoyed our time at MMV Les Brévières. We got a great late season deal that included a lift pass, so the whole stay cost only €200 more than the pass by itself. It’s not ski in ski out, but the slopes are about a five-minute walk away, and getting out to ski was easy. The ski room was fine, with padlocks provided for the skis. Les Brévières is the lowest village in the area, a traditional place with a few bars and restaurants and a small supermarket. Late in the season, the runs down to the village were getting patchy and the green run was closed, until a huge storm brought well over a meter of snow. It’s quick enough to get up into the main ski area. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. There were loads of young children around. I have kids too, so it didn’t bother me much, though I think an adults only area would be worthwhile. The food was hit and miss, from really good to poor. The raclette one night was great, and the pizza was very good. Nothing is labelled, so if you can’t tell what something is by looking, it’s a bit of a lottery. Breakfast was below average, though you won’t go hungry. The all inclusive drinks had a good selection and were great. Rooms are small and basic, but clean and comfortable enough. I don’t understand the €200 deposit. A card hold would make more sense. They charge the €200 and automatically refund it over a week later. With more than 300 rooms, that’s over 60k of customers’ money being held each week. It’s not fancy, but it’s a good base with what you need if you’re here to ski. I’d definitely come back.

The food was really tasty, and the bar had a good choice. We stayed all inclusive. When avalanche risk kept us confined to the hotel, Florian and the animation crew kept everyone entertained and the energy up. They deserve better pay, especially for that. I only wish they could translate into English as they went along. The kids’ disco also ran too late. After 12 hours of activities each day, the children were exhausted by the end of the week and getting miserable. I also used the spa and had a lovely facial followed by a full body scrub. I’ve never felt so clean. The rooms are basic but functional. In our triple room the single beds were so narrow that we pushed two together, with one right against the wall. The twin rooms had much more space. It was a great hotel overall, with a few niggles, and I’d certainly recommend it.
