Gîtes Bresse Détente

We were eight people, including four children, and left after just 10 minutes without staying for our reservation. The grounds looked like a dump, with clutter everywhere and broken glass on the ground, which felt dangerous for the kids. The layout and shared washrooms were more like Tossiat’s municipal campsite than family accommodation, and nothing like the website description or what I’d expect from a place carrying the "Clé Vacances" label. The owner said the cleanliness issues were because of a shoulder injury, but I’d seen the same complaints a year earlier. Avoid at all costs.

We had a great evening with our friendly hosts, sharing a beer and a couple glasses of wine. It was an ideal stop for the night on our way south. The apartment was spacious and lovely, with air conditioning and a private terrace overlooking a beautiful view.

The village is very quiet for sleeping, but it’s isolated and there’s little there beyond a bakery. I liked the idea of the barrels, and the rooms are cozy, but the so-called hotel is really two wooden barrels and a pool house turned into guest rooms. What I found appalling was having seven rooms share one small, dirty bathroom. I wouldn’t recommend it at this point.

The guesthouse manager was so friendly and helpful, and the bedding was especially comfortable. We had a memorable family weekend there for a surprise birthday, with 17 of us staying. It’s a great place to spend time together as a group. The accommodations were comfortable and well equipped, and the barrel-shaped rooms are quite unusual. Thanks for the lovely experience.
