Péniche Amboise Maison d'hôtes Toulouse

The room wasn't ready when we arrived early, so we came back later. Finding parking beside the canal was tricky, especially with a larger car, though we eventually managed. Marie greeted us at check-in and was helpful, sharing maps and books and suggesting places to see and things to do. The boat has thoughtful details and is furnished really well. Our cabin was small, clean and nicely decorated. The bathroom, with its bath and shower, and the toilet don't have a door, though there's also a shared toilet for the three cabins. There were plug-in mosquito repellents in the cabin and coils on deck for evenings outside. Breakfast was generous, with a shared fridge for things like compote and yoghurt. We stored our wine there. Marie was around at breakfast and during the day when we needed her. The only real snag was the very unreliable Wi-Fi. It's unusual, pretty accommodation in Toulouse, and I'd recommend it.

I chose Peniche Amboise for a work trip because I'd never stayed in a boat hotel, and it was a great experience. Marie made check-in easy by message and then in person, speaking English. Since it was my first day in Toulouse, she also explained how to catch the bus to my conference the next day. She patiently answered my questions and made sure breakfast was ready at the right time on the following days, so I didn't miss anything at the conference. The rooms work well for one or two people. The shower was warm with good water pressure, and there was heating and air conditioning, though the mild weather meant I didn't need either. I expected insects near a canal, but slept with the windows open and didn't see any. You can hear a little from other rooms, but the other guests were polite and I barely noticed them. The bathroom has no door, which might bother some people, but it didn't bother me. The Wi-Fi kept dropping until I switched it to 2.4 GHz, probably because 5 GHz was getting interference from the walls, water or something else. I noticed the boat rock just once, and only a little. It really felt like a hotel. I'll stay at Peniche Amboise again, and I've already recommended it to my co-workers. Merci Marie!

Marie was a really helpful host. The place is clean, comfortable and unusual, and you can walk to many of Toulouse's sights without too much trouble.
