We picked this hotel at the last minute for a one-night stop on the way south from the UK, mainly for the easy secure parking opposite and central location. Tournus is lovely, with river walks for dogs, shops and great restaurants. The hotel room and bathroom were clean, spacious and quiet; an inner lobby door kept corridor noise out, and even though we faced the road, the windows blocked the sound well. The friendly staff were helpful, and the place felt more like a four-star than a three-star hotel. We ate at the restaurant with our dog, who was welcome, and didn't mind being seated away from the other diners. The food and service were good, but the meal was overpriced and the choices limited. We'd stay here again, but try one of the other nearby restaurants.

A nice place with friendly staff, and the rooms are clean and pleasant. Dinner was €35 for Bourg on Brest chicken leg. Really. The fillet steak was cheaper, so I should have ordered that. Still, I'd come back.

The restaurant served a very good French dinner, and the hotel sits right in the city centre. The building itself is historic, once a stronghold during Crusade. The service was only average, though, and not as good as I'd expected.

Tournus is a beautiful village with plenty of fine restaurants, so if we return, we'll choose another one. We arrived by boat and booked Le rempart after the tourist information office recommended it. The setting looks beautiful and is connected with a large hotel. We waited a long time for the entree, then again for the main course. The waiters seemed to notice we'd not been served. When I tried asking where the bathroom was, a young waitress cut me off with “no speak English.” My French is very limited, but I thought “toilette” and “WC” were fairly universal. When I tried again, she pointed and said “door” abruptly. I've visited many parts of France and never found people rude; those working in hospitality have usually been helpful and friendly. Maybe it was just a bad night for this waitress. The meal finally arrived and was average for the price. By the time our plates were cleared it was quite late, so we skipped dessert and asked for the bill. It didn't come, so we went to the counter, where they gave us the wrong bill, charging for three courses instead of two. They were quite happy to speak English to take my payment.

The restaurant was good, though short-staffed, and didn't quite live up to its Gault Millau rating. The hotel itself is decent rather than fancy, with a very nice welcome. Reception looked after us well when our booked room wasn't available. They upgraded us to match the booking with little delay or fuss. It's right on the main road, so we were glad the windows were double glazed. The Abbaye, a top site, and the main shopping street are very close.
