Frenchdoor Tours Corneille

The room itself was okay, but the rest of the stay was a very bad experience. The building number is hard to see when you arrive, as is the tiny plaque by the locked entrance. There’s no reception, and you have to sign up on an app ahead of time, then enter a code to open the door. Booking.com didn’t explain this well. We spent frustrating minutes outside with no answer to the intercom before finally getting in. Parking is a few hundred metres away and costs extra, I paid 15€. There’s no lift, and we had to climb more than 60 steep, winding stairs to our room. At breakfast we were told most of the food had been eaten by other guests, so we practically got no breakfast even though it was included in the price. There was no staff on site to help, and the breakfast waitress was quite unfriendly. This ruined our visit to Tours, and I strongly advise avoiding the hotel. After we posted a review on booking.com, they promised a refund if we removed it. Almost a month later, it still hadn’t arrived.

The room and the area were good, with plenty to do and see in the evenings. The shower was nice, and everything was clean. You can get into the breakfast room at any hour, so coffee and the like are always available. It’s a pleasant space, with outdoor seating when the weather allows. Remote entry and service are a little clunky, but they do work.

The room was so cramped that there was no room for a chair or bedside table, which left us nowhere to sit except the bed and no table at all. The lighting was poor, and I couldn’t read. We found better value elsewhere. The “Accès digital” process means uploading your passport and photo and waiting for approval, which was hardly convenient. We’re both 72 and had to climb to the third floor because there’s no lift, though the staff did help with our luggage. The helpful staff, good location, and breakfast room open all day were the three good things.

An easy self check-in and a good breakfast, all at a fair price. The fresh-squeezed juice and bread were lovely. It’s a great hotel for the money, and you can’t go wrong staying here.
