The place is up a steep hill, and the room felt like a basement room they used to keep for a child who has since grown up. The couple were friendly, though the wife didn’t seem happy when I arrived. There was damp and mould in the bathroom. My nose ran throughout the stay, and I worried that if it got into your lungs, you could end up with pneumonia.

The bathroom had a terrible smell, and the place is a north-facing converted basement, nothing like a Provençal house. You can hear noise from upstairs and there’s no privacy. His wife came by every day, looking through my things and moving them around as she saw fit. He quoted me 450 euros for a month, then after two weeks sent an insulting email demanding, or rather barking, that I leave the next morning. I read it early that morning and had to go without notice. He’d received other bookings and wanted to make more money. I believe that was an illegal eviction and could have filed a lawsuit. I contacted the DGCCRF (French Directorate General for Competition Policy, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Control); they intervened, but unfortunately couldn’t impose sanctions. Don’t believe what he says. Don’t stay there, there are other options.

The bathroom was comfortable and very clean, but there was no sound insulation at all. The owner also failed to tell me that I had to park on the sidewalk in front of the house.
