Relais du Silence Grand Hotel d'Uriage

Rainy Sunday plans sorted: brunch at 1:30 pm, then some time at the spa. Just book ahead to make sure you get a spot.

There are small grocery shops and a park nearby, and the location itself is nice. Inside, though, the old furniture, bathroom, and spa all look dated and haven't been kept up well. We didn't feel very at home, with a smelly toilet and no heating, so we had to use an electric heater. It's a nice hotel in general, but it feels like its best days are behind it.

The restaurant is great and shouldn't be missed. The staff were also very friendly and attentive. Set in a lovely park in a cute town, this historic hotel has a beautiful setting, but the building feels dated and needs a refresh. The decor and spa area could use more care to make them feel special. We got a good room rate, but breakfast wasn't included and parking cost extra, which brought down the value for money.

The spa facilities were phenomenal, with two pools, a steam room, two saunas, and a fantastic jacuzzi in a lovely park. There were plenty of sun loungers for everyone. I took my mum to Grand Hotel Uriage for some TLC, and we had a wonderful, very relaxing stay, though Sunday to Monday was too short to book spa treatments. Our room was a beautiful, good value chambre mansardée on the fourth floor, and there was a lift. The bed was comfortable, the view was gorgeous, and the Uriage products in the bathroom were fantastic. They even gave us a lovely little bag of samples to take home. The main thing to keep in mind with these rooms is that the shower is over a bath beneath the eaves, so it's awkward unless you can kneel or sit in the bath. A third-floor room costs a little more, but might be worth it. Breakfast is expensive, but utterly delicious, so we thought it was worth it. There are lots of good value restaurants and bakeries close by, and the steak tartare at La Fondue across the road was phenomenal. Thanks, Grand Hotel Uriage, we'll be back : )
