Langley Hotel Victors

There was blood on the sheets, the room was dirty, and some appliances were broken, including the bathroom ventilation. The reception was empty most of the time, so there was no one to ask for help. The hotel is above a club, and it was impossible to sleep until very late. The stairways and hallways smelled like vomit, most likely from people going to the club. This hotel was truly horrible. Don’t stay here if you can.

The bar gets lively at night, so this won't suit you if you need total quiet. But after a day skiing, it was a handy, affordable place to sleep, with a fantastic location, friendly staff and a tasty Scandinavian breakfast. The rooms are very small, though.

The restaurant and bar staff really made this stay. They were always smiling and gave us great service, and the chef's meals were fantastic, from the three-course daily special at 25e to the A La Carte. Thanks to Erik (hotel manager) and Nanna (restaurant manager). The rooms are basic but clean; from the first floor you can hear the bar downstairs, though it wasn't loud enough to keep me awake. The mountain lifts are about a 3-5 minute walk up the road.

No kettle was a nuisance, since there was no way to cook anything, even instant noodles. Half board might be worth considering if you don't have cooking facilities. Otherwise, it was well kept, with clean, if small, rooms and a ski locker near the entrance. It was the cheapest place I could find in Val d'Isere, close to the slopes, intersport, gare routiere and the spar next door. Reception hours are 7:30 to 19:00, and it's not always staffed, but that was a minor inconvenience.
