We booked a studio with a small kitchen for 96 euros a night, for three nights. My friends had recommended the residence because their wedding was at Bar à Vin, which is on the same premises. The whole wedding group, 45 people, stayed there, and we were all deeply disappointed. We arrived around 10 pm, after calling ahead and being told it was fine and that the room would be left open with the keys inside. Reception was closed. When we got to the studio, there was no mattress cover, bed cover, towels, or soap. I was shocked. The residence instructions said there were two booking types, and it seemed I’d booked the “location” option, where I had to clean absolutely everything: under the bed, bathroom, kitchen, floors, dust, and take out the trash. I checked the Airbnb emails and found all the rules, the charge for towels and bed linen, and a 300 euro deposit that would be returned with deductions if you didn’t clean properly. Check-out is by 10 am, but check-in starts at 5 pm, so after doing all that cleaning, the room has to sit empty for seven hours. Some people paid the same price and got an uncomfortable sofa bed instead of a proper bed. We all just wanted to leave as soon as we could, and leave the place as clean as possible.
