SAINT-GEORGES, splendide T3 centre historique de Vannes

You can easily spend half a day walking around Vannes, though seeing the individual historic sites properly takes longer. We found it well worth the extra time. The old castle, cathedral, and maison a collombage are among the highlights. Much of the architecture is grand and well preserved, and the town itself is gorgeous. We highly recommend a visit.

Vannes feels full of life despite its age, and wandering its old center is like entering a fairy tale. Narrow lanes are lined with half-timbered houses leaning over the streets, while the old walls still stand around the town. You can imagine the bustle of medieval merchants and sailors from distant places. There’s something to discover at every turn, from tucked-away courtyards and carved wooden fronts to cathedral bells ringing over the old stone. Each visit feels like a little journey into Brittany’s past.

I was there in July 2023, and the park near the town palace was especially beautiful. The harbor is worth seeing too. I enjoyed exploring the old town’s streets and houses, and there are plenty of restaurants serving local dishes such as Galette.
