La Fuye du Chateau de Jallanges pour 17 personnes

We had a great time exploring the grounds and common rooms, and the included breakfast was superb. The room itself was breathtaking, the most impressive one I’ve ever stayed in. It made us feel like royalty, while its modern amenities were a perfect match for the obviously old room. We spent two nights here as part of our honeymoon, and everything from reservations through check-in went wonderfully, beyond what we expected. We hope to return someday and stay longer. 5🌟

Helen was quick to respond and very accommodating, and our hostesses Amber and Soukaïna welcomed us so warmly. We had a lovely two-night stay in this gorgeous chateau.

I was there for work, and this isn’t usually the kind of place I’d rent for myself. It does seem like a very nice venue for weddings, events and the like. I wasn’t happy with the room, though. It could’ve been cleaner, and there were lots of flies and bugs. The bed was good, but the furniture needs freshening up, especially the bathroom, tub and taps.

Our holiday memory of the Loire is now tied up with a sour taste from this stay. The room was musty and run-down, the mixed-period furniture smelled like it had been rained on and brought inside to dry, the toilets wouldn’t flush, and the shower was blocked. I’ve stayed at several chateaus in the Loire, and a place can be authentic and still be cared for and free of a musty smell. The bigger problem was the reservation. We booked the Louis suite many months ahead, from Japan, and the manager/owner let it to someone else, then acted as if we had never confirmed. After speaking with the other party, my wife and I came away believing he had given our room to someone else for more money, or to make up for some dissatisfaction or complaint. He didn’t seem ashamed of trying to deceive us and attempted to gaslight us about the booking. Reservations with this establishment apparently aren’t worth the paper they’re written on before being cancelled. The manager/owner struck me as pompous and dishonest, and seemed to think guests should be grateful to book a room at this musty, run-down Chateau. We all have our opinions and attitudes, but reasonable people can tell when things cross the line. Are there no plumbers in Vouvray? Pick another chateau, any other one. This place isn’t worth the aggravation you may face or the sour feeling you’ll have when you think back on your Loire vacation.
