La Bégude Saint-Pierre

The restaurant served excellent food made with local, seasonal ingredients, and the staff were all very friendly. From here, there's a lovely woodland walk to the spectacular Roman aqueduct at Pont du Gard, which is well worth seeing. The building is an old, beautiful stone house, comfortably furnished and surrounded by lovely countryside. It sits beside a busy road, but choosing a room that doesn't face it means traffic noise isn't a problem.

The grounds were beautiful and well kept, and both the pool and our room were clean. The staff were very nice, though they seemed short on hospitality experience. For a hotel with so much potential to be a real four-star place, there are several things that need attention. Our room had two separate single mattresses pushed together, and the hot water wasn't consistent. Wifi in the rooms also needs to be reliable. Around the pool and terrace, we often had to go inside ourselves to ask for food and drinks, so more staff would help. The food needs work too. We'd like to have at least some vegetarian choices. We ordered two Italian salads that were very overpriced for the quality and felt like something a university student might make. Even after asking for a vegetarian version, we found small pieces of ham throughout. More flexible food options that account for dietary needs, well-trained staff who understand what guests need, and local recommendations and music in the shared areas would make the stay more enjoyable and help justify the price.

The rooms were good, but we had trouble with the air conditioning. It took 2-3 days before they moved us to a different room. There are far too few chairs by the pool, which made it hard for everyone to enjoy it.

I liked the lovely view outside and how open the hostesses were.
