Le Logis Aux Bulles

The staff are so polite and speak great English, and the food is absolutely fabulous 💯. The place is opposite a florist in a sort of town square, but you could easily drive right past it, so keep your eyes peeled.

We got to see the small wine cellar and try a tasting of the ‘grand cru’ chateau. The landlady was friendly, helpful, and spoke English. It’s an excellent B&B, with superb rooms and a great breakfast. Don’t forget to buy some of their excellent champagne.

In the lovely little village of Verzy, Edith runs a superb little Bed & Breakfast. She’s very friendly and speaks good English, and the breakfast is lovely. If you ask in advance, she can cook dinner too. Her husband has their own Champagne, Mouligneaux-Gourdain, and if you want to spend even more time with the family, visit their daughter’s bar, Le Petit Meslier.

The booking was cancelled by the property the day before we were due to arrive, and the message said they would not reply again. Totally unacceptable. This was meant to be a surprise 4-day birthday trip to the Champagne region for my 50th. My girlfriend had booked us the biggest and most expensive room at Le Logis aux Bulles for our first night, including a tasting in their own cellar. That was the main reason she chose the place. On 26/6, she was told arrivals were only possible from 17 to 19h, not before 15h, and that otherwise the key would be left in a safe. She replied that we weren’t sure exactly when we’d arrive and asked them to leave the key in the box. Then on 1/7, without warning, she got an email saying the tasting was cancelled. She explained that the stay was a birthday surprise and asked them to find a solution, since the tasting was why she had picked their place. At 10:10h on 2/7, they claimed she had previously said we wouldn’t arrive before 19h. That wasn’t what she’d written. She had said we weren’t sure we’d make it between 17 and 19h, and that she could tell them what time she wanted the tasting. At 10:55h, they said a Saturday tasting wasn’t possible, but offered Sunday morning instead, without giving a reason for cancelling it. By 3/7 the surprise was out, and my girlfriend didn’t know what to do, so I emailed the property at 7:56h on 4/7 to lay out the same sequence of events. At 10:54h they replied: “Your girlfriend cannot make a reservation without specifying a time frame. She never did. Seeing as we cannot satisfy your demands, we cancel your complete booking altogether and will no longer reply”... Excuse me? When had they asked us to choose a preferred time slot? And what gave them the right to cancel the whole booking one day before arrival? I guess they’ve never heard of customer service or guest satisfaction.
