Grand Hotel du Nord

The place has a calm, pleasant feel, and everyone is friendly. Management and staff handle things in a professional and responsible way.

The staff were welcoming and nice, and both the room and bathroom were clean. I did like the breakfast, too. What kept me from sleeping was the noise through the old building: I could hear someone's TV and people going in and out of their room. Also, check the arrival time carefully. I believe there is nobody at reception after 8pm, and you need a code to get in and find your key.

The room was spacious, with a nice view and two windows that brought in a pleasant breeze. The building itself is beautiful and old, right in the center, with grand public areas. The staff were friendly, and there was secure bike parking. But the carpet felt sticky underfoot, the Wi-Fi kept cutting out, and the shower cubicle was cramped, with a clingy curtain and weak water pressure. Breakfast was a real letdown: very little choice, and no self-service coffee or orange juice. I was given one small cup of each, with no offer of more. At €13, that was unacceptable. Maybe it would have been okay for €5.

It felt cozy, and the service was good. The shower pressure was weak, though the water was consistently hot, so it was acceptable. Breakfast was basic but covered the essentials. There was no clerk on duty from evening until morning.
