Hotel Des Bains

The owner and his partner seemed friendly and well meaning, which made it all the harder to understand how so many things were off. We were in the two-bedroom annex behind the hotel. The sheets were synthetic and didn’t match, there was only one pillow each, and mine had a big stain on its case. The towels were old and mismatched too. The rooms weren’t close to immaculate, with mould on the bathroom door, and the shower head was only at waist height. The hallway seemed to be used for furniture storage, the courtyard garden looked scruffy, and the reception area gave the impression that the owner hadn’t kept up with his paperwork. Breakfast was very poor: low-quality yoghurt, stale bread and croissants, and dirty jugs for coffee and milk. The windows were fogged with sea spray. We paid more here than at an excellent, modest hotel in Fécamp. Management really needs to pull its socks up. We’d honestly question any glowing reviews.
