Le Relais du Morvan

The owner struts around wearing a dangling gold chain and seems to be trying to intimidate guests. We were told to sit outside the main seating area because we were only having drinks. Nobody else was asked to move, though we were the only English people there, and the main area was almost empty. The waitress seemed embarrassed to have to ask us. Maybe the owner should do it himself. A very poor experience. I won’t be back.

I came for the restaurant in September 2021. The food was good quality, though a touch pricey, so 4 out of 5. The waiters and waitresses were friendly and patient with my limited French, but service was a little slow. It was quite busy, so I gave them 4 out of 5. My interaction with the gentleman I assumed was the owner was 1 out of 5. After I’d finished my meal and asked for a menu to choose dessert, he was discourteous and acted like he didn’t want to talk to me. EDIT: I’ve changed my rating to 1 out of 5. This was the worst dining experience I’ve had in six years on the continent, because of the "owner." I was on an 11.000km motorcycle journey, and this one interaction stood out as the worst of the whole trip. Shame on you.

The food was delicious, and the people were super friendly. They’re famous for their grilled meats. The restaurant is at the bottom of town in a perfect spot just below the basilica. They even helped us find a farm where we could park our horses and accommodated 12 cavalier!

The cheese is delicious, and the waiters are very friendly. Still, it feels like they’re less interested in people who aren’t from France, which is a pity. The owner/chef struts around like a proud, popular rooster.
