I’ve never had a worse stay in any kind of accommodation. I’d strongly advise against booking here. I came to Vieux Boucau for Saturday’s triathlon, and the night before the race I woke up to my room full of smoke, toxic fumes, and a horrible burning plastic smell. Outside my door, the carpet and walls were blackened with smoke, and the carpet had burned. The smell was awful and affected my breathing. I was told the fire was out and everything was fine, but I couldn’t believe there’d been no fire alarm while smoke and fumes filled my room. Afterward, nobody from the hotel tried to contact us or move us to another part of the facility. We still had to pass through corridors that smelled of smoke and burning to get around. The reception had burned out, so I had nowhere to go for help, and nobody answered the phone. Someone from the hotel may have been on site at some point, but no one made themselves known or reached out. That was disgraceful service. The following day I was busy racing, so my girlfriend tried contacting the hotel through email and Instagram. There was no reply, despite the read receipts showing that the messages had been seen. I’ve since emailed twice myself and have still had no response. I can’t believe paying guests were treated this way. For safety, the front entrance was blocked off the next day, but nobody told us how to get back in to collect our things. We ended up trying random doors at the back and walking through areas that weren’t safe for the public. The burned out corridors didn’t even have working lights. The problems started before the fire, too. When I arrived, there were no sheets on the bed or pillowcases on the pillows. The whole experience was terrible.
