Hôtel Mercure Villefranche-en-Beaujolais - Ici

We booked here with our young child, who liked the place, so we did too. They took great care of us, and the service was really great. If you’re looking for a good hotel north of Lyon, this should be the one.

The parking security gate didn’t work, and the lot was uncontrolled, so we had to carry all our things up into the hotel. We’d chosen a Mercure because we wanted something a little better than an Ibis, but this place was worse than an Ibis budget while costing a lot more. Our room was a handicapped room, and its bathroom wouldn’t have been suitable even as a highway bathroom in the 80s. The inside of the toilet bowl was disgusting, and the smell matched. Before we arrived, we’d been told by phone that the restaurant was closed. Fine, that can happen. Breakfast was another mess. Two staff members were trying to do their jobs, but plates weren’t refilled, bread kept running out, and nobody replenished the eggs. They didn’t clear the tables after people left, either. We asked if a table could be cleared for us and were directed to another room in the restaurant. That was fine, until another staff member told us ten minutes later that we weren’t allowed to sit there. Quite disappointing.

The service was disappointing, and I wouldn’t book here again. You may find other places in the area more comfortable and accommodating.

That bathroom has loads of space, which makes it such a shame they couldn’t fit a shower in!
