B&B HOTEL Lille Villeneuve d'Ascq Hôtel de Ville

The room worked, but felt a little too small for our four nights. Staff were very friendly and breakfast was good, with plenty to eat. The evening “restaurant” only had pizza while we were there, and there were a few nearby places to eat, though not many.

The rooms are quite basic, but the shared spaces feel welcoming and laid back. Someone on the team keeps bees in the garden and supplies honey to the hotel, a lovely touch. There's something honest about IBIS, and the staff often seem to care about the place and go the extra mile. Breakfast costs €8 and is a bargain for the amount and variety. The food is good too. Very happy with it.

One employee, a man whose name starts with W, is what made this trip better than mediocre. He was cheerful whenever we came in and went out of his way to unclog the drain so we could shower, even though that isn't his job. He seems to handle everything while most of the other staff just stand around. I was surprised he wasn't the manager. I hope management appreciates him. He deserves a raise!

We chose this hotel because we expected to arrive late. Trip Advisor said there was a restaurant and bar serving “light bites” 24/7, and the brochure in our room also claimed food was always available. But when we checked in at 2200 on Saturday, the receptionist, who was barely pleasant, said the kitchen was closed for the weekend. We could get a drink, but no food. After a long day on the road, we'd counted on eating something. The false advertising was a huge disappointment. The beds were comfortable, which is the one good thing I can say. The room was clean but terribly tiny, and the carpets need replacing. We wouldn't stay again unless we had no other choice. The misleading meal information guarantees that.
