Gîtes La Bakénia

The grounds are lovely and clearly well cared for, with a swimming pool, and the owners are friendly and helpful. It’s about a five-minute drive into town. Getting from the parking area to the gite takes you around 30 meters and several steps, so carrying luggage is a bit of a chore. Inside, there’s a spacious bathroom with a separate toilet, though the shower is tricky to adjust. The living and sleeping area is small, with two large single beds, a little kitchenette and a small fridge. Wi-Fi was moderate to good, and the TV had Dutch-language channels. There are also two more single beds, perhaps intended for children, in the warm attic, where the ceiling is (too) low.

The garden and park, along with the wonderful pool, made La Bakenia feel like a little paradise. The gîte was comfortable and had all the modern conveniences. Kees and Marjo were so kind and hospitable, and kept us updated on things to see and do nearby. Their tips took us to beautiful spots we might easily have missed. We had a fantastic holiday and will definitely come back for another.

The grounds were beautiful, with plenty to do, and although the cottage is out in the countryside, the supermarket is only five minutes away. Kees and Marjo were sociable and gave us lots of ideas for exploring the area. The cottage itself was lovely and well looked after. Everything we needed was there, and it was all clean, including the shower. None of the usual cottage annoyances like blunt knives or too little cupboard space. We normally never return to the same place, but Kees and Marjo have us reconsidering. Thanks for a wonderful holiday!

The website and information folders have lots of ideas for excursions, with cycling, walking and driving routes ready to use. Gite Joini also made a great base for exploring the area. Our week there was lovely, everything was clean and in good order, and the hosts were welcoming and always glad to help. The amenities were excellent. Highly recommended!
