Hilton Garden Inn Marseille Provence Airport

The breakfast was fantastic, though they serve... The restaurant is fabulous, the front desk staff are friendly and speak English, and the shuttle is very prompt. This is the one and only place to stay near the Marseille airport.

The beds were comfortable, the showers hot, and the shuttle ran on time. Coffee and croissants in the early morning were great too. It was a good experience overall, and I'd stay again, but I'd eat elsewhere because the restaurant prices were a lot. The hotel is clean, quiet, and close to the airport. It was very windy when I arrived, and a tree kept banging on my window, so I asked to move to the other side. That led to a comedy of errors, with blankets I hadn't ordered brought to me twice. After a long work trip I was ready to rest, but dinner didn't start until 6:30 p.m., so I was starving by then. The burger and fries were $25 Euro, with water and Coke at $5 each. I expected the Coke price, but you feel captive there and can't do much about it.

The rooms are large enough, and cleanliness is excellent. Reception service was good, and having the shuttle to and from the airport is very useful. We'd avoid eating in the coffee shop or restaurant. Two club sandwiches and two drinks cost 64 Euros. This isn't the Ritz, but hotel management seems to think that price is fair. It isn't. They can charge that much because guests on short stays are a captive audience. Bad business, and frankly stupid.

The restaurant's dinners and breakfast were good, and the rooms were clean and comfortable. Everyone at the front desk was very friendly and spoke English, so communication was easy. We had a 6:00 a.m. flight from Marseille, and the hotel was accommodating enough to take us to the terminal on its shuttle at 4:00 a.m. Be careful about walking to the terminal. There's a sidewalk along the hotel's street, but it gets iffy at the end when you head toward the terminal on foot, especially with rolling luggage. Take the hotel's shuttle.
