ibis budget Marseille Vitrolles

The room was cozy and older, but clean, and the staff were friendly and professional. This is a standard budget hotel with what you’d expect. If you want a 4/5 star stay and perks, this isn’t it. But for inexpensive lodging with a great fresh breakfast and coffee, it’s a good choice. I’ve stayed at Ibis hotels all over Europe and tend to pick one whenever there’s one where I’m going. I know what to expect, and they haven’t let me down.

The receptionist was really unhelpful and unfriendly when I called to book. He said there was no way to check in after 11 pm and refused to reserve a room. But I went to reception around 11.30 and everything was fine. A terrible, unprofessional experience.

Being close to the airport is about the only plus, though the area felt dodgy. The air conditioning barely cooled the room, and whenever people in the neighboring rooms showered or flushed, you could hear water running through the pipes. I was more comfortable spending two weeks in a tent with a sleeping bag before this stay. Worst accommodation I've ever had. Don't bother.

For an early flight, the location is handy and easy to reach, and the price is affordable. There's free parking and Wi-Fi, the staff were friendly, and a petrol station is just 40 m away. The room itself was small but adequate, though it could use some refurbishing and the cleaning wasn't great. There was mold on the toilet ceiling and a drain smell in the shower, which went away after I aired out the room, probably because it hadn't been used for a while. The floor was a bit dirty too. It's not luxurious, but that's not why you'd book it. I could stay here again.
