This is our regular stop on the last night of the drive back from Portugal to the U.K. It’s such a relaxing, lovely place, with good food, great service, and a welcome for dogs. We’ll be back.

The park around the Castle is lovely for a walk, and the fine dining restaurant serves high-quality French food. It’s a cosy place to stay, and very dog-friendly. We were greeted warmly and the keys were handed over quickly. Everything had been well prepared, which was much appreciated. Well done.

The surroundings are beautiful, and the property itself is stunning. Parking was easy, and I was able to charge my car there as well. I’d definitely recommend staying here.

Dinner was very good, though the chips were so underdone that I should have sent them back. Breakfast was nice, with eggs and bacon cooked to order. The water from the machine wasn’t hot enough for tea, and there was an enormous choice of honey but, oddly, no marmalade. Small complaints, and I’m still happy to recommend the hotel. It’s lovely and beautifully set, though a bit farther off the beaten track than I expected. On arrival, the receptionist was lovely and spoke excellent English. My room was well equipped and super, if a little small. I had dogs with me and was in the Orangerie, so that may not be typical. Clarins toiletries were provided, but there was no hair conditioner or body lotion.
