Meryl made me feel at home during my three nights at Laurel Bank over the May Bank Holiday. I really enjoyed the stay and found it peaceful and quiet, so I felt relaxed. The accommodation was very good, and it was close to the venue for the course I was attending. Meryl’s cooked breakfasts set me up for the day, and her cheese sandwiches were delicious. A well deserved five stars!

The room was warm and comfortable, though we were given a twin with the bathroom down the corridor instead of the ensuite double we’d booked. That’s why I’ve given it four stars. The dinners were nice, especially the apple and blackberry crumble. Breakfasts were satisfying, and the packed lunches were great.

We were back at Laurelbank in August 2021, and it’s a great B&B. Meryl is a lovely host, the rooms are spacious and the showers are piping hot. She also serves very good evening meals and breakfasts. We highly recommend it.

While we were walking Glyndwr's Way, my friend got injured and Meryl drove out to pick them up. She’s an absolutely lovely host, and later made us a delicious home cooked dinner with enormous puddings. I’d highly recommend this place to other walkers.

The view from the twin bedroom window is fantastic. We also spotted two Kites in a nearby tree from the dining room, and you’ll see plenty of them around here. The abbey ruins are close by too, a nice little bit of history. The house is lovely and the area is lovely. Our king room was huge, with an attached bathroom, and there’s secure off street parking for bikes. The pub is unusual, open roughly 8pm to 11pm, Tuesday to Saturday, and it doesn’t serve food. It’s run by your hostess’ brother. I’d give the stay five stars, but there aren’t any eateries nearby or other options, so you need to plan ahead. That could be a pain with kids, since they can be unpredictable. If you’re bringing children, you’ll need to think about what to do with them. I didn’t see a playground, and I doubt you’d come all the way to Wales just to use playground equipment you can find anywhere. You’re asked to take your shoes off before walking around the house. That seems reasonable, as it’s a family home and it’s immaculate. There are two friendly pooches. I don’t know whether you can bring pets, but there are lovely walks either way. If you’re into rambling, you’ll be spoiled for choice. The night skies are amazing if you like looking up. There are so many stars I couldn’t make out the usual constellations, apart from the Big Dipper, and I saw a satellite moving across the sky at quite a pace. Would I come back? Definitely. It’s well worth a stay. Five stars from me and my fellow traveler.
