Wheelwrights

Nigel knows Abbotsbury well and has written one or two books about the town that are well worth reading. We were welcomed to Wheelwrights by Nigel and Sue with tea and a delightful slice of Sue's Victoria Sponge, a nice fit for Wheelwright's former use as a tea room. The accommodation is at the back of the property, with its own key for entry.

The village has plenty to see, and it’s close to Chesil Bank and the subtropical Gardens. We also had the swannery and tithe barn on our must-visit list. Our hosts welcomed us into their parlour for tea and cake when we arrived, and they were lovely and generous. The converted outhouse room had its own heating and access to the little car park at the back. Most of the furniture was modern and really comfortable, and breakfast was good.

We were in room 1, which was on the small side, but warm and cosy, with no road noise since the house sits back from the road. The bathroom was clean and spacious, though the shower wasn’t great. It’s a lovely old thatched house, and our room looked out over a pretty garden. There are two pretty rooms and parking, and the B&B is well placed for the beach and coast path. The owner was friendly, the service was good, and breakfast was a fantastic cooked one.

We’ll definitely be back to Wheelwrights soon. Sue and Nigel made us feel so welcome, and the cottage was lovely. The room was spotless, with a huge, really comfy bed, and the full English breakfast was delicious.
