Aberdeen Douglas Hotel

It’s an agreeable place, though not especially luxurious. The location is excellent, and the restaurant food is good. There’s a nice bar and a very quiet, relaxed lobby. The hotel feels old-fashioned. The corridor floors creak when you walk, but I found that quite charming. Room hygiene could be better, as it didn’t seem fully up to standard.

The room was very clean, and the free WiFi worked without buffering. Still, the dated decor and the lack of floor space made it feel tired, and there wasn’t enough room to put a suitcase down without it getting in the way. The bed was large but hard, and the pillows didn’t support me. The TV was small and its colours looked poor, perhaps because the screen is failing. Reading in bed was impossible with the very dim bedside bulb. There was a landline on the desk and a Gideon bible in the bedside drawer. The dark wood furniture included a table, chair, wardrobe, bed with headboard, and bedside table. An old radiator in my room never came on, and the bathroom had no heat either. It had a shower, toilet, and handbasin. The shower was small, with nowhere to put my razor or shaving gel, though shampoo and body wash were provided. The hotel has four floors, a lift, and keycard entry to the rooms. The bar and lobby are pleasant and laid-back, but the place is old-fashioned overall.

The breakfast was really nice. The lobby looks good too, but the rest of this old hotel could do with refurbishment and updating. The carpet was worn and wrinkled.

The bed was probably the comfiest I’ve ever had, but the stay was a mix of good and bad. There was an event on, and the music was so loud it felt as if it were coming from our room. It wrecked our sleep.
