Armadale Guest House

A friend stayed here and found bugs in the bed. He didn't sleep well and ended up sleeping on top of the blanket. It's such a shame things like this happen with internet booking. We booked by mistake, thinking this place was in Cap Breton, Canada, and cancelled ten minutes later. We asked the lady for a full or partial refund, but Freda said she couldn't help because it was Booking.com. Booking.com said she was the person to deal with. To me, Freda and this place showed no respect or ethics. I suggest people avoid it to save trouble and money. I have no confidence in them.

The rooms were clean and pleasant, and the bedding and towels smelled freshly dried in the windy garden. Breakfast was tasty, and the guesthouse has its own car park and is close to the centre. Freda was a great hostess and kept high standards for health and safety. Highly recommended.

Breakfast was brilliant, with a freshly cooked full Scottish breakfast and as much toast, tea, and coffee as we wanted. There were also fruit juices, cereal, and other options. Freda was lovely and nothing was too much trouble, which made for a very pleasant stay. We arrived late but she met us warmly. Our room was roomy and comfortable, with an ensuite bathroom, plenty of storage, a TV, fridge, kettle with tea and coffee, and a hairdryer. The mattress was softer than we're used to, though still comfortable enough for two good nights' sleep. The family room had two extra beds, one with a broken frame at the foot end, while the other was fine. The room faced the back, where tall trees full of crows woke up around 4:30am and made a lot of noise. The shower was another downside: you had to get up quite early for hot water, and later it was mostly cold or lukewarm. Apart from that, it was a great little place.

I'm a long-distance courier, and this is the only place I stay when I'm in the area. Armadale gets 10/10 from me. The rooms are lovely, the beds are comfortable, and the food tastes like your mum's favourite meal cooked just for you. I'd definitely recommend staying here.
