Marischal Apartments

A really nice one-bedroom flat in great condition, with rooms furnished to a high standard. There was little, if any, noise from outside. It’s close to everything in central Aberdeen and the prices are really competitive. I can’t praise these apartments enough, just superb.

There are a few things I wish I’d known before booking, though I’m giving the place the benefit of the doubt with four stars. Street parking only works until 8am, so if you want to sleep in, you’ll need the garage, about a five-minute walk over cobbles with your bags. There’s no room list either, and getting to your flat can mean climbing one to three flights, so big suitcases are a hassle. They don’t do housekeeping during the stay, though they leave fresh fruit, cereal, coffee and milk, and the washing machine came in handy. On sunny days the room gets hot, with no fans available. Maybe that’s just Scotland. There isn’t much nearby, and if we made the trip again, we’d skip Aberdeen.

It’s a clean, warm apartment in a handy spot near bars, restaurants, shops and transport. I’d call it a Google four-star-plus place, and a good value recommendation overall. It worked well for two, but more people would have felt cramped. The little food supplies were useful: milk, cereal, coffee and tea. There’s also a washing machine and airer, though I managed to catch both thumbs in the airer, which really hurt. Extra electric radiators are kept in the wardrobe, handy because it felt colder by one window at night. The shower pressure wasn’t great, and there were no instructions for recycling plastics, so we left them on the side. Hooks on the bedroom and bathroom doors and a few more hangers would help.

We were settled into the flat within about 30 seconds of reaching the building. The passcodes for the outer and inner doors worked perfectly. The apartment was spacious, immaculate and nicely furnished, with all the mod cons and a fridge and breakfast hamper stocked full. We could have lived there, it was that comfortable. The bed was big and comfortable, and the double glazing kept road noise out. There was some sound from upstairs in the evening, but it barely bothered us. It’s right in the city centre near all the amenities, and still only a 10-minute walk from the train and bus station. A great place for a few nights in Aberdeen, highly recommended.
