AbingPlough House

We were supposed to stay for two nights, 13-14 December 2025, and had called ahead to arrange for someone to check us in at 5pm on Saturday. Instead, we arrived to a dark area by the rooms and a cold, dim main building that felt completely unwelcoming. Breakfast tables were set, but nobody was around. We rang the requested doorbells and tried our mobile, which wouldn't work there, then used the phone on the counter. None of the numbers got us through. Eventually a man answered one of them and told us to go outside for a key in a box. There was no light, so he said to use our phone torch, then walk left of the tree to find the room. It was pitch-black and we couldn't see where we were going. We weren't willing to stay somewhere when we had no idea where anything was, so we went to sleep on our daughter's sofa instead. The man on the phone was rude, pushy and unhelpful. He said nobody was there because he was at a hospital in Oxford looking after someone who worked for him. We couldn't find the room, so I can't comment on it. This was the worst-run place we've ever visited.
