We stopped in for lunch and didn't stay overnight, so this is just about the food. The fish and chips were spot on, with crisp batter and fish cooked just right. The burger was really good too, served pink, which you don't come across that often these days. We also enjoyed the pâté and Caesar salad. Definitely recommend eating here.

The rooms were small, modern and cute, with everything we needed. The bathroom felt surprisingly spacious and had a gorgeous finish, and I loved the bedroom skylight. Underfloor heating was great too. We'd found this place online at the last minute while looking for somewhere near Oxford. What a find. The pub food was incredible, made with quality ingredients, and we'd come back just to eat. The lovely staff were friendly and helpful from check-in through service.

We liked it so much on our first visit last week that we're coming back this Sunday for another roast. The decor has a beautiful, moody feel, and both the food and service were great. It had been highly recommended, and it lived up to that.

This was our third stay at the Chequers, and check-in was easy as ever. The staff were really friendly, breakfast was exceptional with generous portions, and the improved car park made parking much smoother than before. It's still a lovely stop for us when we're travelling home from the South. Room 1 did need more attention to cleanliness. It felt dusty, including the handheld mirror on the windowsill, and the window and ledge by the door were visibly dirty. The blinds were broken on this visit and were already broken when we came almost a year ago, so those areas may have been missed. Paint tester patches are still there too. We also found a used coffee pod left in the machine and one of the mugs was stained. We do enjoy staying here and look forward to our stop-offs. A spring clean and a few small repairs would make the next visit even better.

The wider menu is worth mentioning too. I've had several dishes here, from pub classics to more refined choices, and they've all been well presented, delicious and made with quality ingredients. There's a good range, and every meal has been satisfying. Still, the Sunday roast is the standout for me. The Chequers at Burcot serves the best roast in Oxfordshire, with beautifully cooked, flavourful comfort food. I've been several times and the standard holds up every visit. Service is warm and professional, attentive without hovering. Great food, good value and consistently lovely service make it somewhere I return to with confidence.
