The Commercial Hotel

We had lunch as a group of three and would happily return. Even for someone gluten intolerant like me, there was a wide choice. The service was great, the dining room pleasant and cosy, and the food freshly cooked. Prices were very reasonable, and we couldn't fault anything. Getting a parking spot right outside was a bonus in the heavy rain.

That steak pie really was something special. The shortcrust pastry, tasty gravy and tender beef came with chips and vegetables to share, and we both loved it. We'd been staying at the campsite in Tarland and stopped by the Commercial late in the afternoon to see if we could get a bar meal. We had a good pint from local brewery the Burnside, with a craft IPA and a cask option, then booked food in the lounge bar. Service was friendly and attentive all evening, without hovering, and everything came quickly. I had the black pudding starter, which was very good, while my wife enjoyed the spring rolls, one of the specials. We thought the prices were reasonable for the ingredients and service, especially with costs having gone up everywhere. A solid five stars. I tend to start eating before taking photos, so keep that in mind when you see them.

The staff were wonderful, the room looked lovely and felt really comfortable, and the restaurant food tasted so good. I'd highly recommend staying here.

The peace and quiet made for a really good night's sleep, and the room was clean and comfortable with a lovely view of the hills behind. There was hot water whenever I needed it. Staff were friendly and helpful from the moment I arrived until I left. I enjoyed a good menu, especially the squid starter and the steak and Guinness pie, which had big chunks of meat and came with cracking chips and veg. Having a good keg beer by the fire was a bonus. Breakfast had as much variety as the evening menu, and the full Scottish was delicious. I came to mountain bike nearby and was charmed by Tarland and the Commercial. Hopefully I'll be back, thanks!
