Mercure Blackburn Dunkenhalgh Hotel & Spa

The Mercure Dunkenhalgh Hotel & Spa has been a wonderful place to film. I first found it two years ago for a film, using The Oak Room as our set, and it looked beautiful. We returned this year to shoot my second film because of how good the venue was. The location is excellent, and nearly all the staff were brilliant: helpful, courteous, friendly, and great with customer service. A few people especially went out of their way to help during filming. Sarah Lockwood was running events when we first came, though she has since left the hotel. Danielle Isherwood has taken over from her, and Aziz, who runs the restaurant, made sure the cast and crew had what they needed. Liam, Mal and Oliver in the bar were also efficient and kept us comfortable. I didn't stay overnight last time, but did this time. The room was clean, very comfortable and a decent size, without feeling cramped. The restaurant food was seriously good. Head chef Sean Noonan provided excellent lunches for both film crews, and I also enjoyed the breakfasts and dinners. There's a superb spa attached, with a fabulous pool that I made good use of. I'd recommend the hotel for a stay or an event. I'm sure you'll be glad you chose it.

The room had great amenities for anyone who likes tea or coffee, and the bed was very comfortable. What really made my stay, though, was the team. Reception made me feel welcome as soon as I arrived, and the staff were attentive, friendly and ready to help. The restaurant and breakfast crew deserve praise too. Their passion shows in how they look after guests, and their positive energy lifted my day. The food was delicious, with good quality and plenty of variety. The staff's professionalism and genuine care made this hotel stand out for me.

We had a relaxing stay, and the spa was a lovely extra. The facilities were well maintained, though hotel guests share them with leisure members, so it can get busy. The staff were helpful and friendly throughout. The building has lots of character, which made it feel more special than a typical Accor stay. Our room was clean and comfortable, with everything we needed, and it was quiet at night while still being close to the hotel facilities. Parking was easy, with plenty of free spaces for hotel customers and leisure members. Remember to enter your registration plate at reception. The bar staff were very pleasant to talk to. We didn't catch their names, but they recommended things from the menu and directed us to the spa after our welcome drink. Breakfast had lots of options, and the space and staff were accommodating. Vegan choices are available to order, and a lovely staff member helped my partner choose some vegan extras. That was a refreshing change from other hotels we've stayed at. We'd definitely consider coming back for the comfort, atmosphere and facilities.

Another comfortable night here. The grilled chicken breast on the Grill Menu was very tasty, but it wasn't what I expected from previous visits. It used to come with fries, mushroom and tomatoes; this time we got chicken supreme with herby mashed potatoes and creamed vegetables. When we asked, we were told fries and the like only come with steaks. The menu should say clearly what the dish includes, especially as someone might have an allergy. Please update it.
