After 35 years as a ‘Lodge Owner’ for two weeks every July, the lodges are losing their appeal. Maintenance costs have doubled, while the quality, equipment, facilities and amenities have all declined. There are too many faults to list. The price just doesn’t match the experience anymore. Disappointing.

The Boathouse is a cute restaurant, with comfy sofas and a pleasant atmosphere overlooking the marina. Our afternoon tea was a bit hit and miss: the cakes and scones were gorgeous, but the sandwiches were a little dry. We had a voucher for half-price tea and wouldn’t hurry back at full price. That said, the main dishes coming out to other tables looked and smelled delicious, so I’d stop in for dinner if I were in the area.

The grounds made a lovely backdrop for photos and relaxing walks, and our grandchildren had a great time swimming. We were at Cameron House for our son's wedding. The rooms were amazing, the staff very friendly and the food delicious. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the hotel. Thank you very much.

I’ve been staying at the lodges for roughly 30 years. They’re comfortable, stylish and well equipped, though some services have been reduced. I nearly gave four stars for that, but felt it might be a bit harsh given covid, staff shortages and rising electricity and fuel costs. It’s a beautiful area with plenty to do and places to eat.
