The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the staff were friendly and professional. We went at lunchtime when it wasn't busy, and all four meals, scampi, beef burger, gammon and steak and ale pie, were tasty and nicely presented. The person who had the pie found the pastry unusually tough and very hard to cut, as if it had been reheated too much and dried out. The filling had plenty of tasty steak, and he'd enjoyed the same pie on earlier visits, so we think it was a one-off. Good quality food at very reasonable prices in a relaxing, nicely decorated place. We'll definitely return, and can recommend the Sunday carvery too.

I stayed here for work and the staff were lovely. The rooms are huge, with a comfortable king-size bed and a nice bathroom, and everything was very clean. Breakfast comes with every room and was absolutely spot on. I didn't try the evening food, though it smelled lovely. The Wi-Fi wasn't great in one of the furthest-back rooms, and the TV could be a little bigger, but I can't fault the place.

We stopped for lunch while travelling from South Yorkshire to Edinburgh and needed a break. I was looking at reviews about long waits and food while my husband ordered at the bar, so I was a bit worried, but our food came quickly. It was beautifully presented and absolutely gorgeous. I had grilled halloumi salad and chips, and my husband had lamb kofta salad and chips. The portions were so big I had to leave some. The place was spotless, with a lovely atmosphere and staff. If this Inn were local to us, we'd be regulars. I'd definitely recommend it. Thank you so much.

We first spotted the Hogs Head when we stopped to charge our car, and liked the look of it enough to come back for an overnight stay on the way to York. We weren't disappointed. The staff were so friendly and helpful, and the service couldn't have been better. The rooms are large and very comfortable, and breakfast was great. It was amazing that it was included in the room price. We can't wait to return, stay longer and explore more of the area instead of just passing through.
