Ferndale Lodge

The host was friendly, and the main road location is handy for restaurants, cafes and pubs. Our room faced the road and got very noisy with the window open, which you need in summer since there’s no AC or fan. There were loud people outside at 01h30. We used public overnight parking, which meant an uphill walk to the Lodge. That’s manageable if you’re fit and able, but parking was full both times and luckily a car left as we arrived. Not sure where you’d go if the public parking is full. The bathroom is cramped, with probably the smallest shower I’ve ever had to negotiate. A big guy won’t fit in it, and the “double” bed is very narrow and small.

Our separate, self-contained room worked well for the dog, and it was clean and comfortable, with plenty of hot water for showers. Check-in and communication were easy, and the owner was friendly. The location is handy for the town centre, but nights were quiet. We’d come again.

Staff made us feel welcome, and their interactions gave the impression they genuinely care about guests. We spent four nights here and everything was spot on. The room, described as the 'old dinning room', may be larger than others because of its former use. It was spotless, well equipped, and had a lovely walk-in shower; the bed was really comfortable too. We paid around £90 a night, which felt like excellent value for the room and location. Parking was straightforward. There are about half a dozen small private parking areas, and Rob gave us a free permit that works in most Ambleside car parks. One of those is about 15 metres from the accommodation, so you’ll get parked, no worries. I can’t fault Ferndale Lodge and wouldn’t hesitate to return. Thank you for a perfect stay.

The location is extremely convenient, with private parking too. Everything was clean and well maintained.
