I stayed for two nights and was pleased with the experience. The rooms and facilities were fairly clean. The showers get wonderfully hot and have strong pressure, and there’s a decent little cubicle for getting changed in. For the room prices, I’d happily return. Thanks for a pleasant stay.

The bunk bed room has a fridge, WiFi and multi-plug sockets, and it works absolutely fine. The shower is super powerful once you get the hang of it. Stagecoach bus 516 runs up here, though at best it only comes every two hours. I got a great midweek bargain, especially since The Lake District is EXPENSIVE. My honest view is that, because of the location, unless you’re doing treks, I wouldn’t want to pay over £50 a night midweek or maybe £70 on weekends out of season. In summer, add another 50%!!!

The bunk room is quite small, so leave your trekking gear in the vehicle until you need it, and remember to bring any cutlery you’ll need. Flip flops are a top tip too, it’s cringeworthy to see people walking barefoot across a wet floor. In our opinion, it’s excellent value for money, so go and enjoy. My walking mate and I stayed last weekend in a two-person bunk. We got parked outside, though there’s parking nearby as well. The room has a full-size fridge that doubles as a table, cups, a kettle and a multi-socket extension for charging phones. The beds are comfy and already made up; you just put your quilt in its cover. We were happy with that and stripped the beds before leaving. People mention the showers flooding. I guess that can happen if you open the door to turn on the shower and adjust the temperature before getting in and shutting the door, so take care. Two pubs close by serve good food and decent Guinness. There are loads of first-class walking routes from the door. Al, who lives on the premises, supplied towels and extra pillows when we needed them and was an all-time nice guy. Thanks for your help. We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend at the hostel and will definitely be back.

A good shower and a decent bed were the two things I needed, and both delivered. Bedding was provided, which was sensible and welcome. The communal shower could get a bit swampy, as those showers do, but it felt great after a wet day wandering in the hills. The location is very handy.

The resident warden came straight over when we got locked out, which was a big help. The place was clean and practical. Showers do leave the floor wet, but otherwise the facilities were good.
