Langdale Hotel

The huge, comfortable bed in our beautiful Roomy Lakeland Signature Room made it easy to relax, and we'd happily come back. For our two nights, we also had breakfast, food and a spa day included in the cost, so travelling from London we felt the price of over £500 was worthwhile. A nice London room for two nights can easily cost £500 without breakfast or extras. My partner booked the stay for my birthday. Staff were especially attentive and friendly, room service came quickly, and both breakfasts were fresh and nicely done. The restaurant was lovely too. We added the three-hour thermal spa experience with a deli platter. It was very quiet on Friday afternoon, though I think our timing may have helped, as breakfast felt busier on Saturday. Even so, the spa was relaxing.

The views around the hotel were amazing, and we had a lovely time using the spa. When you book the spa, you get a platter, with vegetarian options available. Breakfast was included, and the hotel restaurant also serves lunch and dinner. There’s also a pool, gym and sauna that you can use outside the spa. The one small drawback was the TV: no Netflix, just Freeview, though you can cast YouTube and BBC iPlayer.

The one thing that might make a visit difficult is getting around without a car. Otherwise, it’s well placed for Ambleside, Windermere and Kendal, with a peaceful, lovely estate that’s great for switching off or exploring. This was our second stay at The Langdale Estate, and we’ll be back. The spa was spotless and relaxing, and breakfast at Stove had a great range with plenty to go around. Our room was clean, cosy and welcoming after a day out in the Lakes. Staff were friendly, welcoming and genuinely helpful throughout.

The room cost £200 for one night, on the ground floor, with a view of cars, and the shower head wasn’t working properly. I wouldn’t choose this hotel again. Around the area there are nicer places that cost less, and this felt overpriced for the quality. After hiking around langdale, we came back to use the spa and found it busier than expected. It’s open to the public and there were lots of children. The pool was too small for an easy swim, there were only two loungers, and it didn’t feel luxurious. We also ate at the restaurant. The menu seemed okay, but the food fell short. The mushroom ragu starter was strange and not what I expected from a ragu. Sweet-style cake bread alongside the duck parfait didn’t go well with it. The goats cheese and beetroot salad was very dry and boring, with leaves that didn’t complement the beetroot and cheese. It’s one of my favourite things to eat, but this was the worst I’ve had. My husband’s chicken breast main wasn’t much better. I’d prefer the service charge to be optional, even though I usually add one myself.
