Room rates don’t include anything beyond the room, but there are 10% discounts at the cafe next door and Apple Pie Shop. The view from our room was probably the most iconic in town, looking at the old house built over the river. Great place to stay, and we’ll definitely return.

We enjoyed our stay so much that we’ve booked another three days later this year. The location, staff and cleanliness are hard to beat, and the thoughtful little touches were done well: wine glasses, a bottle opener, fresh milk available in the morning, and real coffee. Free parking too. Brilliant.

Room 2 was clean and comfortable, and dog friendly, so it worked well for our couple of days. The location is handy for shops, restaurants and walks, and the small car park out front is useful. We love this part of the Lakes and visit every year, and I’d recommend the rooms for a short Ambleside stay. There were some annoyances: the pillows were flat as pancakes, and we woke with stiff necks after struggling to get comfortable. There was nowhere to put toiletries in the shower, so shampoo had to sit on the floor. A few cobwebs hung from the bedroom ceiling, and other residents chatted outside our room early in the morning, which was a little annoying.

We had a lovely stay in room 2. It was clean and comfortable, and every staff member was so helpful. Great places to eat are just a few steps away: breakfast at the apple pie next door, plus The Tap yard and the Flying fleece on the other side, all with great food. The shops are close too. We’d definitely stay again for another break in Ambleside.

We booked a weekend in mid October. We couldn’t make reception before it closed at 5.30, but getting the room keys was easy. We also found a parking spot outside, and the hotel is in a great location. Room 7 is a loft conversion on the third floor, and the headroom isn’t great, so I wouldn’t recommend it for tall people. It stayed warm even with the heating off, and with no windows that open it was stuffy. On the second night I actually slept in the car because the room was too warm for me. I might stay again, but I’d check which room we were getting before booking.
