Skelwith Bridge Hotel

We were travelling with Spanish friends, and one of the waiters very warmly tried out his Spanish with them. I’m sorry I didn’t catch his name, but it made for a lovely moment. The breakfast was delicious and the serving staff were so friendly. We’d booked queen rooms, which were worth paying a little extra for: they were large, comfortable and clean, and I slept incredibly well.

The breakfast was fantastic, with excellent service, and the WiFi worked great. Staff were helpful, and my single room was clean and just the right size. It’s a characterful hotel in a decent spot, with bus connections a couple of minutes away on foot and Skelwith Bridge waterfall around a five-minute walk.

I’ve stayed at skelwith Bridge Hotel for more than ten years and always liked the welcome and service, so this Christmas package visit was a real disappointment. Breakfast on Saturday meant waiting over half an hour before I gave up and left without eating. The water problems were just as bad: weak shower pressure, no hot water from the taps, and after I complained twice, I still had to boil the kettle for a hot bath. The bath panel was badly cracked too. My room was stone cold when I arrived, with no TV signal, and there were no Christmas lights outside. It felt unwelcoming. The dated, run-down rooms and poor service mean I won’t stay here again.

I can’t comment on the bedrooms, since I needed help with something else, but the hotel itself is beautiful and the people were so helpful and lovely. The staff member who assisted me was very kind, even though I was a stranger and a woman. We chatted a little, and another man had fun speaking French with me 😄
