Slack Cottage in High Wray gave us the most peaceful stay we’ve ever had in the Lakes. Chris and Liz welcomed us so warmly, and their knowledge of local history and the stories they shared made us feel personally connected to the area. The cottage itself was comfortable and full of charm, with every detail carefully considered. Each morning brought a lovely breakfast, prepared and presented with care. Its setting combines the history of a former home of Beatrix Potter with the natural beauty of the Lake District, and the view over the lake was magical. We couldn’t fault a thing and left feeling refreshed and inspired. Thank you, Chris and Liz. We’ll treasure the memories and hope to return. With warm regards, Sandy & Bob, North Yorks.

Chris and Liz were charming hosts who did all they could to make us comfortable and answer our questions. Slack Cottage was spotless, and the care taken with room servicing and all the details was second to none. Breakfast was so filling and good that we didn’t need lunch. From the cottage, it’s a short walk to the lake’s edge, with lovely views and walks to the Castle and the ferry. We stayed three nights and fell in love with the Lake District on our first visit. Thank you to Slack Cottage for making the trip even more special. Jo and Paul from Essex.

Staying here made our time in the Lake District feel like a fairy tale. The interiors were beautifully put together to make it feel like a real cottage, and the room had just the amenities we needed. Mr. and Mrs. Lane were friendly and full of useful information, with five-star service. We also loved the traditional English breakfast. I can’t imagine the trip feeling the same if we’d stayed somewhere else.

We wished we’d had more time to explore the Lake District and stay here longer. From the gate, my girlfriend and I had a feeling we’d love the place, and we did. Liz explained everything at check-in, and the view from our room was stunning. A short walk took us to a lakeside path with more beautiful views. Chris gave us much-appreciated tips on local walks. The beds were probably the most comfortable of our entire four-week trip, and breakfast was top-notch.

The hosts were caring and interesting to talk with. Such a wonderful stay, and the best B&B and location in the Lakes x
