Nice all round 👌

The food was really good, and there was at least one local ale on tap, which suited me. Staff were fantastic, friendly, and helpful without hovering. The bar, restaurant, and bedroom are all beautifully decorated, giving the place a relaxed feel. It’s also handy for Stonehenge, Avebury, and Sailsbury, which we visited on our way to Cornwall. What a gem. We’ll come back next time we’re in the area.

It’s a lovely place, which made the problems with our afternoon tea event all the more disappointing. We’d booked for 22 people after visiting a few times and being recommended it, and we’d discussed allergies at length by email and in person beforehand. Staff still had to check several times and didn’t seem sure whether the food was safe. We were told there would be no fish sandwiches, so we didn’t mention the fish allergy, but fish sandwiches arrived. A vegan guest got ham sandwiches. The gluten-free tea was shared with people who weren’t gluten-free, and the avocado sandwich was just mashed avocado as the whole filling. There was far too little food for £16 per person. Five people shared around 10-12 tiny finger sandwiches, roughly three full sandwiches, plus one scone and a few miniature cakes. We asked for more sandwiches and got the cheapest kind, mostly cheese and onion, perhaps with one ham and tomato. We waited about ten minutes for the other two afternoon teas, then realized the extra items were just two more scones on a plate because only three fitted on the tower. We couldn’t properly enjoy the event after all these issues. I wouldn’t recommend them for events or afternoon tea, especially if anyone has allergies. It’s a shame.

Jackie was a delight with our large order, keeping track of everything and making sure the food arrived promptly for everyone at once. The meal was very pleasant, with great food and excellent service. Later, Grace served our nightcap politely and joined the conversation, sharing what she knew about the area. We slept well afterward. Thanks to the George ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Abi printed us maps for a walk to Woodhenge and Stonehenge, and she and the whole team were friendly and helpful. They made a really positive impression on us. We stayed three nights with breakfast, ate at the hotel twice, and the breakfast was excellent. There’s a roaring fire, a well-stocked bar, on-site parking, accessible rooms, vegetarian options, tasteful decor, and a warm welcome. The location is great for exploring Wiltshire. I thoroughly recommend this Amesbury hotel. Thanks, Abi and team. We can’t wait to visit the group’s other hotels.
