I only wish we could have stayed longer. The owners were so helpful, and you can see how much work they’ve put into maintaining the high standards at Shallowdale House. The gardens were fragrant and beautiful, and there were comfortable spots around the property for reading, with books and magazines to browse. Our room was spotless, very well appointed, and had stunning views. The rest of the house was just as thoughtfully set up.

We had a superb evening meal, and everything was to a high standard. The B&B sits in a stunning spot just outside Ampleforth, and the hosts made us feel welcome. Our bright, airy room had a very comfortable bed and everything we could want for one night.

The food was delicious, and Anton and Philip were incredibly welcoming and helpful. We especially appreciated the superb selection of books. Our large, airy bedroom had out-of-this-world views, all in a beautiful setting. It was a wonderfully refreshing break, and I’d recommend it to anyone wanting some peace and sanity in this bizarre year.
