Kate and Nathan were excellent hosts, friendly and ready to help with anything. We had a very enjoyable weekend at Gages Mill Country Guest House after visiting Buckfastleigh, and the beautiful location and good reviews had persuaded us to book. It’s set back from the road, with a welcoming house and grounds full of wildlife. The gardens are well kept, with seating across the large grounds where you can sit and lose yourself for a while. Inside, everything was nicely presented. There’s a TV lounge next to the dining room, and our bedroom was lovely, with everything needed for a stay and an ensuite bathroom with a large shower overlooking the gardens. Breakfast was good and set us up for the day. A stunning place to stay, and we can’t recommend it enough. Thank you, Kate and Nathan.

The room was clean and comfortable, and breakfast was delicious. Nathan and Kate were lovely. There was a problem with the tap, but they fixed it within a day. We had a fantastic stay and would highly recommend the place.

Gages Mill is beautiful, and we’d happily come back to explore more of the surrounding area. I stayed there with my Mum and Aunt for a few nights during half term. Kate and Nathan were so welcoming and gave us good ideas for local outings. I’d definitely recommend the steam train and Buckfast Abbey. The rooms are tastefully decorated and have a real home-from-home feel. Mum and I had the downstairs twin room, with its lovely old-fashioned character, right down to the high pull-chain WC. It’s a sweet touch that keeps the house’s quaint feel. Breakfast was delicious, with a good choice of pastries and cereals as well as cooked options. Mum left her coat behind, and Kate kindly posted it back free of charge. Thanks, Kate! I’ve already recommended Gages Mill to friends and family visiting Devon.

We spent two nights here for a wedding, and the cosy, comfortable room had everything we needed. Kate and Nathan were wonderful hosts, the nicest and most accommodating I’ve come across at any hotel. Their B&B feels like a perfect getaway, and breakfast was a delicious, filling English one. I left my cardigan behind and messaged Kate. She kindly sent it back free of charge by first-class post. If you’re planning a weekend away in Ashburton, I couldn’t recommend this place more.

The gardens are lovely, with birds and wildlife to watch around the various feeders, making this a great spot to unwind. Kate and Nathan made us feel welcome and had plenty of suggestions for local places to eat. Breakfast was lovely too, with everything you could want, including a veggie fry-up and great coffee. It’s a handy base for Dartmoor and the surrounding area. Ashburton is a 25-minute walk away, there are nice walks within a ten-minute drive, Buckfast Abbey is ten minutes away, and Salcombe Harbour takes about 45 minutes by car. We stayed at Gages Mill for two nights and would love to return next year for longer.
