For the price, this is a very good place to stay, especially if you’re heading for a channel crossing. It’s close to the station, easy to reach from the motorway and about 20 minutes from the Dover ferry terminal. There are decent places to eat nearby, while the hotel sits back from the high street and stays quiet. My room was small but very clean. The shared bathroom and toilet might not suit everyone, but they were fine for me. Martin, the manager, was very helpful. I also liked the first-floor terrace overlooking the car park, a nice place to sit after a hot day. Great value and well placed for the crossings.

The single ensuite room had what I needed, with a comfortable bed and clean sheets. The place seemed relaxed, and breakfast was served at the cafe next door. I’d call cornerstone functional and well located, but the stale cigarette smell in my room and the hallway was unpleasant. Someone also seemed to be smoking in the early hours, which made me uncomfortable. I won’t return because of the smoke.

The rooms are tiny, the beds even smaller, and it’s extremely loud. Between the bar street, staff, other guests and the seagulls eating trash, I couldn’t sleep. During our few days there, the water in our room was off for several hours. Two police officers investigating something in another hotel room told us to stay in our room and lock the door. When we left, two more officers were at the front desk looking into a break-in that had happened overnight.

I had a travel problem before my early morning Eurostar and called to ask if they had space. Thankfully, they did. The lovely woman I spoke with said she’d wait at the desk until I got there, and she was very helpful and nice to talk to. The bed was so comfortable. Of all the places I’ve stayed, it gave me my best sleep before an early start.

I really like the owner, but the hotel itself was bad. During seven days there, they brought fresh toilet paper only once. Something that looked like fungi was growing in the kettle, which hadn’t been cleaned. Nobody cleaned the room, and the roof window had no glass, so it was freezing.
