There were so many tempting dishes that I went for a mix of small plates at lunch. The homemade slaw was delicious, and sitting at the bar made for a lovely meal. The place felt cosy and relaxing, with welcoming staff and friendly locals. It’s dog friendly and has a great choice of local beers. I’d definitely recommend stopping by.

A few of the lads were staying there for a wedding at Askham Hall, so that’s how I found this pub. Lovely little village, lovely spot, and lovely staff.

We hadn’t booked, and it was so busy there were no tables inside. We sat outside instead and ordered from the pizza menu. There was a big selection, and the pizzas were delicious.

We arrived late on Thursday night and were welcomed with a warm smile, a cup of tea and such friendly service. Everyone was attentive and genuinely interested in chatting with us. The hospitality here is excellent, and it’s the best place we’ve stayed. Breakfast was brilliant too! I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a base to explore the lake district or attend weddings at Askham Hall.
