Breckland Lodge

We’ve been meeting up at the Breckland Lodge restaurant for years because the location works so well for my family. The food is good, and the self-service carvery is fantastic. There’s also a well-stocked bar and a lovely coffee room. I can’t comment on the accommodation, as I haven’t stayed there, but I’d highly recommend the restaurant.

I hadn’t had a roast in years, since I’ve been living outside the UK. It was delicious, and you can help yourself for just £15. For the money, it’s great value. I’d spend more at McDonald's and still be hungry and less well fed. Keep up the good work, and support your local business.

The staff made dinner with two tired little children easy. They were friendly, helpful, and efficient, and everything was spotless. We’d come across the place by chance while travelling, then stopped for dinner on the way back. Glad we did, the carvery was delicious and the desserts were great too. We had the chocolate brownie and ice cream, plus the cherry Bakewell. Definitely worth a visit!

The hotel was in exactly the right spot for where I needed to be, but that was about the only plus. The rooms were very basic. I found a piece of cling film between the pasta and cheese in my lasagne, and the one mouthful I’d taken was a balled-up bit of it. The waitress was shocked, took the plate away, checked with the kitchen, and said I wouldn’t have to pay. I went to reception because I wanted them to know how terrible it was, but they seemed surprised that I was annoyed. In the end I ordered takeaway. To clarify the hotel’s response, I wasn’t offered another meal for free. The only things waived were the meal I hadn’t eaten and the cup of tea I had drunk. If they’d offered a meal on the house, I wouldn’t have ordered takeaway.
