Rowan Tree Country Hotel

For Mum's 80th, we wanted a special meal while staying nearby, and several people pointed us to the Rowan Tree. The staff were so helpful, and the food was incredibly high quality. Mum had a brilliant evening, with the Rowan Tree playing a big part in it.

Loch Alvie is right beside the hotel, and the setting is fantastic. My room was comfortable enough for my one-night stay. Dinner at the Hotel Restaurant was great, with good service, and breakfast set me up well for the day. I had a very positive stay and would consider coming back.

The breakfast was amazing, especially the porridge, fruit bowl, and three-egg omelette. I also found the room comfy, the shower hot, parking plentiful, and the staff lovely. One snag came after checkout: a beer and whisky were charged to me. Please check my profile picture, because I wasn't the person who ordered them to Room 7.

The meal was outstanding, and the bar had a great selection of whiskies, gins, and local ales. They use fresh local ingredients creatively, with Scottish favourites like venison, lamb, and salmon done beautifully. The staff were welcoming and attentive, knew the menu well, and were happy to handle dietary needs. We loved the setting overlooking Loch Alvie, too. The Rowan Tree Country Hotel is in an old 18th-century building, with open fires and wood beams that give the restaurant a cosy, characterful feel. For us, it was one of the best meals around Aviemore, with excellent quality, good value, and a relaxed Highland atmosphere. Highly recommend it for dinner, whether or not you're staying at the hotel.
